I've read with interest most posting on this subject as well as the main article. I do subcribe to the KZCSI theory; if it ain't leaking don't seal it.

So I have a tank now that has been treated with Muriatic acid, washed out, then with Phophoric and dried (with difficulty).

I intend to use it for a few months, then, probably it may not be used for 12 - 18 months. What is a good precaution, so it doesn't get rusty thru condesation again?

Should I drain it! and leave the cap open.
Should I put some light oil in and swirl it around the tank. Is there a spray? It will be under shelter.

If I were going to give it a single winter's layup, I'd just fill er up with petrol.

12 to 18 months, that's another matter. I suppose I'd try to spray some Marvel Mystery oil on the inside surfaces of the empty tank and then put a rag over the fill and just rest the gas cap down loosly.

Hopefully, after 12 months of setting there, dry, your carb's various seals and O rings aren't too dried out to hold fuel at all. I know that the next time I let the carbs on my 900 dry out I'll be fitting new fuel fittings.

when storing my tanks. if over winter I just keep it full of gas with stabilizer in it. if longer I drain them and spray fogging oil in them once they are dry. cover the holes to keep dust out with a rag

Thanks for the responses.
Don't know what fogging oil 1s?
I guess its a spry like product that coats internals with oil to prevent corrosion.

Fogging oil can be bought at the auto store. Try the Seafoam, I think it's Deep Creep? Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Also, marine stores will have a fogging spray oil, lots of outboard motors get that treatment in the fall.
