Gas tank lid lock tumbler with key needed where 1 was created by donthaveakawman
I ordered a key set from eBay ignition switch seat lock and gas lid. The gas lid opens without a key and that doesn't help me at all if someone were to notice that I only put high test gasoline in this hog, then siphon it and replace it with low octane gas. So I need a lock I am not going to buy a whole new gas lid or gas tank just because of this although the ltd only holds 3 gallons +\- this thing is a kz750 ltd of 1980 thanks for any input

I don't think any of the KZ gas caps used an actual lock. The slot the key is inserted into has no pins or tumbler. It is just a slot in a cylindrical piece that retracts the latch, so any small object (like a little screwdriver) will operate the cap. I haven't seen any aftermarket locks that fit the stock caps or even any aftermarket caps with a true lock, but maybe someone else on this site has seen something that would let you lock the cap. Ed

I have purchased 3 tanks with caps online 2 caps and repainted a buddies tank my key fit them all

a buddy bought a 80's honda at a tow vompany auction and my key opened that gas cap lock took some jiggling

I am not sure there are any tumblers in the cylinder of the kz's

so walk up to your buddy's bike unlock his gas cap and reclaim your gas!

Only way to fix thats is welding in a new filler hole with the new style gas caps from cars or Harley's. This way you can buy a locking gas cap.
Or buy another old tank and weld a hasp and lock over the existing cap.
Don't bother! If that guy was going to steal you 3 gallons of ethyl and
he sees the lock. It would piss him off and then he would stab your tire, give you a flat

Z1Enterprises sells aftermarket fuel caps (80s rectangular type).
Unlike the stock unit, they cannot be opened w the ignition switch key.
