As in those images, simple green after the nylon brush was it.. ;)

AS for side cases and valve cover I go a tad further with a set from Home Depot... Buff pad on a drill... Start with Ruby then finish off with white compounds.



Then after on the bike, just some aluminum polish here and there to keep a nice shine... I'm not into chrome so buffed aluminum is all I desire.... Anyone can polish aluminum, the ones with buffed/polished aluminum says a lot about their character, pride of ownership etc... ;)

I used to get the shakes like that, but I found that drinking single malt Scotch cured them. :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

wow, I went for a ride, besides for the smell of polish and having to clear her throat once in a while this thing rides nice. my legs are also in the need of a good stretch. i really think a clean engine helps for cooling.

that is what the polish is for. if you leave enough on there it will wash off easier. or you could paint it and then polish it.

I'm impressed :huh: I've used simple green for years but never straight for cleaning........DUH! :blink: And the nylon wheels another winner :ohmy: nice to know and thanks.

For extreme oxidization, wheel first then Simple Green...

I kinda want to find a good steam cleaner. using degreaser on a hot engine would be all the same, but what if.

If you are going to have the cases split, consider vaporblasting. I have only found a few places in the US that do it. The surface gets peened and is easier to clean up later. I used this guy: www.vaporblasting.biz/

Thanks for the link! Have seen great results from vapor blasting elsewhere. Never understood why vapor blasting was so popular over the pond but not here.

Looks like rust to me. I'd say it needs some attention before re-assembly. Ed

It's wasn't rust. They were honed ( by local machine shop) and wiped down with oil. Not sure why it looks that way in the photo though? For what it's worth the cases and jugs don't look that shiny in person either :laugh:
