Paint Code/Striping for '77Kz650 Custom was created by reborn650
Hey gang - Can anyone check their records to see if they can track down the paint code for the silver, 1977 650 Custom. The name Kawasaki gave the silver was Moon Dust Silver for 1977. They changed it to Star Dust Silver in 1978 which was slightly different. My paint and body shop buddy can match the code if we can nail it down.
I am returning my 650 back to the factory color as well as the factory pinstipes which were red. I would also like to find a place that offers the '77 Custom's red pinstripe kit also.
Thanks in advance for the help.
Cheers-Colin Firth-Ontario Canada

The pic above is a '78 I believe, in Metallic Stardust Silver, with the squared off front master cylinder. Must also be a European or non N. American model with that long back fender.

I've got a full set of bodywork in this color that's in fairly good shape. I'd like to repaint it the same as well. Anyone know where I can take it to get it matched?

Here's a pic of a '77 C1. Notice the round master cyl. and the pointed pin stipe's front section:

Man it doesn't want me to post this pic.

RSTNICK is correct. Your picture is of a '78. Take a look at:

jarle.eltelevest.no/Kawasaki/Images/Z650/p1/kz650C1_77.jpg

It is a great picture of a blue '77 (like mine). In the picture you can see that the pinstripes on the '77 tank have a different shape than the '78. They come to a point on the leading edge rather than a curve. The rest of the pinstripes on the tank, side covers, and tail are the same on both models. Ed

On page 2 of this site: 650 you can see a '77 pic in Silver. It's the one in the C model section, middle pic, third row that's labelled "C2 78". WRONG, it's a C1. I've tried to add the pic here, but doesn't go. One more try:

Hey Gang-You guys are right about the pic I posted-It's a Euro '78 not a North American '77. I stand corrected-I'll take my punishment like a man...say....how about 1000 lashes with Cheryl Crow's ponytail....uuuhhhh...a guy can dream can't he:)? Obviously I grabbed the '78 pic from my 650 image file without looking too carefully. I should've known from the rectangular front brake reservoir and the striping.

So, back to my original question...does anyone have the exact paint code for the 1977 Kz650 Custom-Moon Dust Silver? I wouldn't mind seeing a better closeup of the red striping on the tank if anyone can post a pic of this also.

In previous posts it has been said that Kawasaki never released the paint codes for the KZ line. I called one of the paint companies that advertise original paint for bikes, and pretty much got the same answer. I think Kaw may have released the paint codes for the older two-stroke street bikes, but I'm not sure.

Actually the tails pinstripping is different for the '77 and '78 as well.
The '77's comes to a high point pointing backwards where the '78's is lower and wraps right around.

Here's a pic of my tail, although a repaint, but following the factory lines.
