Clear coats?

Clear coats? was created by barquirt
A simple question (I hope) ... I had my fuel tank and tail on my '77 KZ650 repainted and I'm wondering if there is some type of easy-to-apply clearcoat I can spray on it to keep gas spills, etc. from marring the paint.

I didn't get a shop to paint it, I had a friend do a very simple, clean spray job but he didn't clearcoat the final product.

Any suggestions/help is appreciated.

If you want to do it right, go to Harbour Freight or the like and get a gravity feed gun. They are not very expensive ($20) and for a one time use it will be good. Then go to any auto finish place and get the clear coat and activator. Mix correctly. I was scared the first time as well, but it turned out great. Prep work is the key. Also, if your friend sprayed with water based paint, it is a good idea to get a water based clear top coat first, then the auto clear.
