Custom Sissy Bar Project was created by 2M4Dale
My wife and one of my daughters refuse to ride with me because they feel they need some sort of backrest. Soooo ... I have started making myself up a bit of a custom sissybar.

I made a template out of cardboard sheet .... well several templates till I got it right ... then cut out the side plates from .125 sheet steel on the junky old plasma cutter at work.

This pic is of the two side plates welded (tacked) together in order to finish the edges and have the plates uniform.

I've only just started this project ... more pics as I come along with it !

I've made some more headway on this little side project ! The pics show the sissy bar I'm gonna use kindof just being held in place by my nephew so we could get a visual.

And another pic of the sissy bar and side plates.

This pic shows the perimeter of the side plates semi-finished / ground to shape and the mount holes drilled and test fit to parts bike.

Side plates have been flattened out pretty good and here they are on the surface grinder at work ready to start the finishing process.

I still have a bunch of work to do to the sissy bar. and side plates .... I'll keep this project thread updated as I move along.

2M4Dale,
This is your lucky day. I work at a very large plating shop here in Minnesota. We use the Show Chrome process, which is nickel strike, copper, semi-bright, bright, and chrome. If you want, send me pics of what you want done. I can work something out with the shop to make this economical for you. One question though, is that Kawi emblem cast, aluminum, or steel?

AWESOME .... I should be ready for chromeing in a couple of weeks ! I will definately let you quote the job for me. Let me get further along with the fabrication and then I'll get ahold of Ya and we'll go to the next step !!! I may want to get some other "stock" items done like my fenders, etc.

The Kawi Eagle seems to be made from bronze with a pewter finish ... it is quite heavy. It is a OE Kawasaki item. It has a Kawasaki part number ... K53033-003 . My Eagle is NOS and was shipped from the Ebay vendor complete in the factory packaging and even came with the OE mounting bolts.

rdgrnr, I still didn't get as far as I wanted to ... but progress is progress .... I have to wait for my finish welder to weld everything up so I can do the final metal work, fit and finish. Once I have everything ready for chroming I'll get you some pics via email ... Here are some pics of where I'm at right now.

Sissy bar mount pockets made >

Eagle mount made and mocked up for this pic ... still gotta cut out some of the original sissy bar >

Side plates being surface ground to finish >
