Anybody have a KZ650 black side cover for sale? Need the right side. This is for a 1977 KZ650B1.

One note of caution here if you have a 77 C model make sure the cover you buy has the little notch molded into it to clear the rear master cylinder. I think all the earlier (77&78) B&C models came like this. But in 79 the B models used a different cover that did not have this notch and the bottom peg will not pop into the grommet because the cover hits the master cylinder.

Also buying a black cover may not be the right shade of black as all black are repaint jobs. 1977 did not come in black. 1978 B2A was available in black, but I've never seen one to this day. The 1979 thing about being different I don't know about. I know Gringo had one that didn't have the notch, but look though the picture archives at any 1979B model and they all have the notch. Not that many 1979s out there to look at though.

321,000 miles on KZ's that I can remember. Not going to see any more.

Since I still have a digital camera I thought I'd take a pic of the differences I'm talking about. The left cover has the notch and the right one doesn't. On a B model it won't matter but just for the sake of info I thought I'd put it up.

and the un-notched one. The really strange thing is the part number cast into the part is the same # on both.

Interesting, there's a definate difference. It's been years since I've seen a 1979B in person. I'm going to be looking if I ever see one.

Ok I think I may have solved this mystery. I saw this sidecover for sale on Ebay off a 650 SR and it appears to have the same profile as the cover off my 79 B model. So either in 79 Kawasaki used SR type covers on the B models or the covers on my 79 have been switched to ones from an SR.

Ok now I'm getting confused  I bought a part from this guy and now I see he has some sidecovers off a 77 650 B for sale that have the same profile as the 79 covers I have ie: no notch to clear the master cylinder. Since I pride myself on knowing what will and will not fit various KZ's this side cover thing is driving me nuts. Ron you have a 77 B model do your side covers have a notch?

The D model covers are taller as well aren't they?
Meaning the height top to botton.

Glad I have a GPz550 as there are fewer differences in side covers. :P
