Engine paint

I'm in the process of restoring a 73 Z1 and have the engine completely apart.
Does anyone know what engine paint is near the factory gloss? I've been looking
at PJ1, and Harley engine paint.
Gloss or Satin ?

on my hotrod bikes ive allways had good luck getting the harley paint to hold up on the cases,i dont paint my cylinders or heads ive never found paint that will stay on them very long!

Believe it or not, I clean and prep with Brake Kleen then use the cheap Home Depot House Brand "Quick Color" fast drying spray enamel.

After painting I let it dry over night.
Next day I start the bike and let it warm up just to the point that I feel the cyls warm up, then shut it off and let it cool down. I repeat this process several times before riding it. My paint looks great, never comes off and lasts for many years.

I took this question to be which shade of black is correct for a 73 Z1 restore. I suggest you give the owner of www.z1enterprises.com a call and discuss this with him as he is really into restoration correctness. I own multiple KZs and am not a 73 Z1 expert. Jeff is the owners name. He can also suggest other sources of info on restoration of your early Z1 that might be helpful... perhaps the Z1/Z900 Worldwide Owners Community which has a STRONG restoration focus.

I am going to clean and prep my motor and use a product called PJ1 case paint. It is an epoxy that works well. I used it before on my kids bike. It worked well and looked like a factory finish.

As far as "correctness" the PJ1 will get you close and if you're looking to be close to concourse, paint it and then ride it for 2-3k and let it fade to look like it would have in that era.
