Simple question for some of the more experienced painters. What is the best masking tape to use. I am looking for something that will mask well and not bleed, but not so sticky that it pulls off old paint.

I'm sure there are a bazillion things that contribute to the problem of old paint peeling off, but I figured if I could at least make sure I'm using the right tape it would be a start.

Thanks.

I had great results with the green 3M auto paint tape.
Readily available at most AutoZone's, Advance Auto, O'reilly's, etc. Comes in a variety of widths too.
Good luck!

Thanks. I've used it before, and thought that might be the one, but wanted to know if anyone else had used something better.

I second the green 3M tape.. though I couldn't find it in the thinnest variety. I would have liked to have had it in a 1/2" - 1/4" width..but couldn't find anything less than 1".

Yeah, I had a Firebird I did some pretty intricate flames and designs on and had to cut the tape rolls into 1/8" strips with an exacto knife. Looked everywhere for 1/8" wide tape but never found any.

Not going to get that fancy with the paint on my bike, though.
