New National Cycle F-16 windscreen was created by pyxen
Hey,

So I've decided that it'd be kinda dumb to try and make an aerodynamically proper flyscreen, so I broke down and bought a National Cycle F-16 sport style windscreen.

I think it looks pretty sick, and it went on without a hitch.

Cheers!

It really accents your bike and its paintwork very well, IMHO. Looks sharp.

The $64 question is, how much wind does it deflect and where does the blast hit you now, or does it deflect it over you?

That's my question too. Does it deflect the wind/bugs over your head?
Does look good, anyway.

Nice! Great flag-work.

Same questions: Where does the wind go. Did you get it in Canada and if so how much.

Any chance you can post a photo looking forward at eye level when fully seated... if you can. I'd like to know the impact on visibility because I'm interested in installing a wind shield this summer for longer trips down to Northern New England. The smaller the better but above all it has to be functional. Thanks.

Have a great riding season!

They seem to work well for swimmers.

Or you could always go full tilt and not have to worry about the nutritional value of said bugs either.

Plus it can be used on Halloween to scare the kiddies, just tell 'em you're a "biker"

I doubt that flyscreen removes/reroutes a lot of wind, but every little bit helps.
Plus it looks great on your bike! B)

Hey! I'm not sure about the bugs yet - they aren't out in force, so I haven't had to worry about it. As for the wind, it seems to throw in right around my shoulders or lower part of my helmet.. I've only taken one ride out on it, and have yet to play with the inclination settings.. you can tilt it up/down by around 20 degrees, so there's a good chance it can deflect a fair amount.

You can get 5 different styles from NC - there's a taller touring style windscreen from them too that would likely route a lot more air over you.. it's got a small lip at the top that definitely flings the air nice and high.

It definitely makes a HUGE difference at around 60mph though.. that sweet spot where the wind seems to find every bit of your torso, doesn't really exist.

Definitely a plus!

Oh,

Just thought I'd fill this out with a bit more of a description of the screen itself. My wife was in a hurry to kick me off the computer and do some 'work' or something.. :)

The screen itself is about 2-3mm thick, and is very well made - no complaints. The little National Cycle sticker is a little tweaked, but I get picky, so I'll just have to learn to live with it.. The mounting hardware is fine - it's a decent little system that works for sure.

I'm going to make a couple support bars to go from the top of the screen to the handlebars - probably the clutch/brake lever 'collar' bolts - the ones you tighten to make sure they don't spin. The screen vibrates a little since there is only the support at the headlight arms. Overall it's quite steady though.. I just don't want it shaking anything loose.

I'm 5'10" (though sometimes I embelish and call it 11 ;)), and the wind seems to get thrown at the bottom of my helmet, just above my neck and shoulders. It's a nice clean stream of air too, so it's not too loud around my ears. I'm not too worried about bugs up the nose since I ride with a full face and the visor is usually closed :)

Overall I'm very happy with it - I'd suggest them to anyone who buys a naked bike. Here's a link to the sport screen page on the NC website. I bought this screen based on the fact it fit the '93 ZR550, under the assumption that a 7" headlight hasn't changed much over the years - and I was right.

I recently installed a National Cycle deflector screen which is about twice as tall as your sporty flyscreen. It makes a difference at cruising speeds by taking the wind off my chest and most of my arms, but it still blows by my helmet bad enough to deafen me.

On my kz550 I prefer the smoked givi windscreen. It is smaller overall but provides better protection than the deflector screen on my 900f.
