Got an old seat that is starting to crack and I want to prevent any more cracking from use. This is what I found. Sounds like exactly what I need...

www.docbailey.com/leather_black.asp

Any questions, suggestions for better products, etc.?

Thanks all!

Never tried this stuff myself, but if the seat's already cracking, it probably can't hurt it. ;)

As a side note, *anything* that contains alchohol will degrade synthetic rubbers in proportion to the amount of alchohol in solution because it aids the oxidation process - but generally that's in the tenths of a percent range and there's other stuff in the goop that works against it.

Do a web searc for "vinyl repair" there is tons of information out there. I was going to add a couple URLs but found too many to pick from.
That one you have is more for leather but these seats aren't leather.

From the product FAQ:

Doc Bailey’s leather Black contains a mild detergent to gently clean the leather, Lanolin oil to condition and preserve your black leather and prevent cracking, A Black color fast dye to restore color and a special blend of waxes to lock that color in and make your leather look new. It contains No Silicone or alcohol or other harsh chemicals. Just natural ingredients to restore your leather to new.

So maybe this product is a bit better in that respect.

I like the flexible super-glue idea. It would be a PITA but maybe just a small piece of paper with some of the glue, slipped underneath the crack and something to press the sides of the crack together while it sets would work. Easier said than done but, it would be pretty cool to not have cracks.

I'd say so. ;)

Given that I've no real experience with "flexible" super glues, I've got my doubts about it.

Normal and "gel" superglues have these *huge* molecule chains that tend to degrade rather quickly by both UV and flexing. It also raises hell with any porus material it's applied to.

I'd try it on some form of similar-composition test piece for awhile before I stuck it on anything I cared about. B)

Never tried any of that stuff, but I do reguarly use rubberized super glue. I use it to glue the tires on to my RC cars. I also used it to repair the horn membrane in a 96 ford escort amoung other things. It works good and is flexible. Not sure how it would work on a seat though. I get it at the hobby store anyway.
