I have a 82 kz750 twin that i just bought. How does the seat lock and helemt lock work? I have tried to unlock it with my ignition key but it does not work. The ignition key work in the ignition. Is there a different key to open the seat and helmet lock?

You could try spraying some WD40 into the latch locks...with luck they may simply be gummed-up from lack of use. HOWEVER, most likely, is that the PO put a new ignition into the bike because he/she lost the keys (or did not have them, for whatever reason). So, if that is the case, then you will have to pick the locks and replace them with ones that come with keys (to be found on eBay).

If all your locks are stock, a single key should open all 5 locks...ignition, seat, gas cap, and both helmet locks. If a PO has had to replace one, or more, of the locks then that key would not work on the other locks. Which locks will the key, you have open? If you only have, say, the ignition key and the ignition lock has been replaced, then it probably won't work on the other locks. I had to replace my gas tank lid so I now have to deal w/2 keys.
Hope this helps

I don't know if the later twins had key numbers stamped on the face of the locks (mine do), but it's worth a look. Take a real close look, the numbers are pretty small... at least if you had that, you could get replacement keys...

My ignition went bad on my KZ900 so I replaced it. Now I have 2 keys, one for the ignition and one for everything else. That's probably what happened with the po.

My key also unlocks the gas tank.

The gas caps on the old bikes aren't really *keyed*, per se. They can be opened with a thin screwdriver...
