VIN# decode for proper paint scheme

how do you read the VIN# to tell what the original paint was?

Vin# will tell you the model year, but I don't think it has any color code info....at least on Z1's and early KZ900's

No, no paint code in the VIN.

The good news, is that most KZs were only offered in two (and sometimes, one) paint scheme. If you know the model/year, and can find ANY little scrap of original paint (inside the duck tail?), then you'll know. 'Course you still have to try to match the original color/stripes. Not easy.

when i stripped the tank, i found about six layers of different colors of paint (no kidding) the PO went crazy with the paint gun. no original paint left anywhere. i'll try the green...
