It looks like I am going to have to buy a China rear master cylinder assembly for the current GPz550 project that is on my stand.

(Kawasaki part number 43015-1082)

I want the entire thing: master, rod, hose, cup etc.

There are a million choices for "import" models on eBay. There are about three different designs and all are said to fit the '81. But that can't be!

Suggestions welcome.

That shouldn't be necessary. Search KZR for the post from loudgpz/loudhvx (RIP Lou) where he describes adapting a Ninja 250 rear master to the '81 GPz550.

There was a used and complete OEM rear master assembly on eBay a couple months ago; I grabbed it about an hour after it was posted. They do show up once in a great while but you basically need to be searching all the time.

I have a '81 GPz550 rear master on my 750E.  It's identical, other than color.  Before finding this unit I bought several used masters off eBay, and they were all corroded badly on the inside - the aluminum bore was pitted and unusable.
