Taper bearings install - KZ650B2A questions on fit

Hello!

Mounting lower/upper triple clamps and not sure if fit is correct.

See pictures. I have kit from AllBalls. There is 2 seals that comes with it (with washers).
On lower - I placed just this seal (it' about as thick as original was)
On top I also place seal, then chrome cup washer and then nut. All looks correct.

Next, when I put upper triple - it is not all way "on" by about 1/8 of an inch. Is it normal?
Also, wave washer. Should it go below upper triple? (it will move it up even more). Placing it under chrome thick washer on top? What is the point?

Both bearing races driven all way in..

To the best of my knowledge this is to ensure the triple pulls down tight on the castle nut so it can't work loose. It probably sits a little higher than normal due to the bearing change and the fact they are new

I agree it looks ok. The spring washer goes under the chrome washer

There is one more question here... I got it all loosely assembled, but there is like 1/16 gap between top chrome ring #9 and upper triple.
According to parts diagram I am missing #17 (pn 44028-043). I didn't have it on a bike before disassembly. Wonder if it's going to give me this proper fit.

Any help/suggestions welcome!

Can’t help with number #17 they are not used on my bikes. You might need a new rubber washer number #22. Yours might be squished. Though it might all tighten up once to torque everything down.

Hmm. I just went to garage, snug top nut pretty tight (by hand) so triple clamp turns tight (OK for new bearings). Now when I tightened top bolt there is no gap on left side and about 0.5mm gap on right side. Yes, I reused old #22 and they might give that little push. I only concerned now that one side has more gap than other. But will make measurements to double-check.

You need to loosen the clamping bolts. Slide the upper stantions up past the upper clamp. Then tighten to snug the lower clamp. This should align the trees. Tighten the large center nut, then the pinch bolt form stem to upper. Then loosen the lower clamp.slide the stantion down till the top of the tube is flush with the upper clamp and torque all of the clamp bolts. All this is after you tighten the stem nut to get proper steering adjustment.

Will do! I ordered those rubber rings on a bottom, they look about 1.5mm taller on pictures compare to my old ones. Currently I only have 2 top bolts clamped, thought thats OK so upper and lower get aligned. But will follow you instructions once I get those rubbers replaced. I am pretty sure it will be nice and snug with new pieces.

One more thing. Looking at your pictures the top fork nut isn’t on yet. You need to install and torque that before the stantion is clamped into the upper. This clamp will effect the torque value. So slip the stantions up through and clamp them in place with the top at least 2” above the upper. Tighten the clamp good. This will hold the stantion so you can torque down the top cap nut. Then loosen the upper ca
lamp bolts and proceed as mentioned.

It is on (very first picture). I got it! :)

Thanks! Like I said, now it's waiting for those rubber pieces before I get it all buttoned up.
Should stantions be flush with upper after all is done?

Number #2 in the breakdown. I was looking at the picture you posted in your build thread.

Oh, those plugs. Right, I need to fill them with oil first, I was kind of waiting on that. It really doesn't matter for what I was doing? forks extended under their weight.
