Twin leading shoe? How about 4 leading shoe: 
Same issues with cooling on repeated stops though. There was a comment about wet drum brakes - are these any worse than the Z1000 I had with stainless front discs? When wet, zero braking, then sudden wheel lock. Awful things.
For normal road use, either is capable of doing the job. But the preference now is for discs. Cheaper to manufacture and lighter.

Cool for sure, but what a pain to keep adjsted.

Keeping it adjusted - yes, that was my first thought; one of the 4 shoes will always come on first, yes? But look closely at the pulling points - there's a balancing piece that ensures that the front & rear pairs get pulled equally hard. You'll still need to adjust teh front 2 spindles and the back 2 spindles, but I suppose it halves the work.

No wonder twin hydraulic discs became popular :)

The other interesting thing about this particular one are the spoke holes - it looks like th edrum can be laced into pretty much any rim. It probably cost so much that you'd want to take it with you from one bike to the next...
