Brake hose material

Aloha guys,

Just as the title reads, I'm looking for what rubber type material can be use for brake hose. Now, before all of you start freaking out, what I'm trying to do is to replace my old rubber-turned-into-plastic, all cracked up rear reservoir line with new one. According to Partzilla, new one is not available, so just looking to see what's available.

Anybody know where I can get one? I found couple on ebay but seller didn't say what are they made from. maybe cut up a old brake hose (planning to run braided line anyway)?


 

You can get a proper brake hose from various places. Z1Enterprises.com carries Goodridge which is what I installed. CycleBrakes.com has Gaffer brake lines w the fittings already crimped on.  As to your question I'd guess the material would have to be reinforced rubber w a known burst strength or something like that. just guessing which is not good for the brakes. ha ha.

I've tried to answer this question in the past.  The trick is that it's hard to know what you're buying, since there are so many different rubber compounds and things can easily get mixed up.

My best suggestion is to find a newer bike with a long reservoir tube and buy that part and cut it to your length.  

For example, the EX500 rear master has a very long reservoir tube.

The high pressure breaker lines likely won't work.  The inside diameter is very small.  I can't see it fitting over the reservoir nipple.

Yeah, I was thinking abvout the same thing. Unless you get it from reputable shop (like Grainger or similar), you'll never know what material even when the seller claim it's the right material. I'll just get from the newer bike. I was hoping I can get a bulk from somewhere. Need it for two bikes (my KZ and 89' ZX-7) and keep some as spare.

McMaster-Carr  has all kinds of bulk tubing. I saw a flexible tubing for hydraulic oil but I don't know if brake fluid would attack it or not.
