Thanks for posting that chart.  I had no idea the difference in brake fluid with the same rating could be so significant.

Fork oil ratings are almost as bonkers.

This looks great.  I am about a month behind you with my 1981 GPz and my situation is almost exactly the same so I'd like if you could confirm exactly what you did?

• Disassembled and soaked in brake cleaner
• 2 one hour soaks in CLR, some scrubbing with a stainless steel brush, and getting into all the little nooks with the Dremel
• Abraded surface with scotch bright and get a few coats of VHT caliper paint on it.
• Cure in oven 145 of 30 minutes. Second was 200 for 45

Anything else ?

Paul, the first soak was in Berrymens carb dip. It really didn’t do a lot. Just knocked down some of the funk. CLR is what took out the rust from the bore and 90% of the corrosion. Small stainless wire brushes in a dremel are priceless. 

I got a set like this from Evilbay. I’m sure there are other sources. They are indispensable, and my first go to for everything I clean or polish. 

 

So as I continue to clean the master cylinder as well as as the calipers . . . would you recommend the VHT paint?
Did you use it on your calipers too?
I have read some online reviews where people have complained that despite applying it correctly (??) and curing correctly - it still came off?
I am also looking at the G2 caliper paint.  It brushes on . . . but seems too look good.  Perhaps even TOO glossy?  It is more expensive, but honestly for the work I am going to to clean these things up (see original state and then partially cleaned up below), I don't mind spending a little extra money if it will "stick" better.


 

I haven’t painted my calipers yet. They are still boxed up from the blaster. I’m not familiar with G2. I plan to use the VHT.
