Hello-
I have a 1979 kz1000 LTD chain drive. I believe it's the stock chain, but what chain do you guys use? I do see the conversion ...how costly is it and is it really worth it?
Also- doing front brakes/caliper rebuilding.....I see there are $24 ones and $40 ones.......which ones would be good?or better to get?
Thanks for any help!!

For brake caliper rebuilding I strongly advise you get OEM Kawasaki parts. Check Partzilla or your favorite source. If the caliper pistons are pitted they should be replaced, as should the brake lines.

For a chain converting to 530 is highly advised too. Z1 Enterprises is a good source.

Stock chain is 630 with O rings. That's what I use, mainly because they last forever. But if one ever wore out I would look carefully at converting to 530. Also, when intalling a new chain it's preferable to install new sprockets.

Lastly, if you install 630 chain and sprockets you should buy the front sprocket with a shoulder on the transmission side. This was added in 1975 to accommodate the wider O ring chain.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I highly recommend the 530 chain/sprocket conversion. My '80 KZ1000 LTD , shifts better, accelerates better than with the original 630 chain/sprocket set up. I used Sunstar 530 sprockets and chain..
