Quick Question - what is this part? was created by bigkuri
I recently bought a 1982 Z750 L2 which has not been started in a long time (20 years?). In the box of goodies there is this part, what is it?

Many thanks!!

Looks like a brake pad shim to me. Supposed to stop pad squeal.

I just looked at the parts diagrams on CMSNL for both the KZ750L and the Z750L, and saw no such part for the brakes. Would at be an aftermarket doo dad?

Thanks Guys.
I'm new to the KZ world and so I'm still finding my way around the various resources. I bought the Haynes manual, but that thing is next to useless, at least the pages are soft for COVID type reasons... ;) lol

The photo does not show but it is nearly 5mm (3/16) thick. Who knows, maybe it's not even off this bike. The gent I bought it off was a lovely old chap, but not mechanically minded; a mate of his stripped bits off the bike and got it running when it first arrived in NZ 20 years ago - so that's where the parts-box comes from (he removed the intake manifolds and airbox).

I did wonder if it was some sort of clip that holds the throttle cable into the carbs? But cannot see where that'd go.
Or something to do with suspension adjustment from the toolkit?

I don't think it's a KZ part, but I would look thru the parts diagrams. If you can't find them for the L2, try the 82 750-R1 & 83 750-L3.
The 750-4 chain drive manual below covers the 750L models.

750turbo.com >>> Downloads >>> Full manual (128mb PDF) .
80-85 750-4 chain drive manual. Yellow/gold cover w color wiring diagrams. 1980-84 KZ750-4 & KZ700. 1983-85 ZX750.
ps: this pdf may be linked here on KZR in the Filebase.

Wiring diagrams. mbsween. bike-night. KZ750L3. Scroll down & click "The Bible" link.
I did not see an L2 wiring diagram, but one of the other ones might be useful.
Nothing to do with the 750L, but just an fyi, some of the H model diagrams are mislabeled.
The site has a poorly copied black-&-white 750-4 pdf manual, so be sure to get the good version from the 750Turbo site.

Thanks All, especially for that workshop manual, going through that now.

Looks like you are right, it's nothing to do with the bike and must have fallen into his parts box.

Found a pic in a German KZ Forum. The Picture shows a rectangular MC. It could possible be your part belongs to bottom of a round MC break fluid reservoire.

To be honest, when I first saw the photo,I thought it looked like a washer/bracket that is used under a kitchen sink to hold the taps (fawcets/faucets??) on. As far as I know,
they're to add some rigidity as a stainless steel sink is quite thin and the taps would wobble around without it.

YEP - I think you are right. After looking through the manual that Martin linked I have thrown it into my scrap metal container for future use as a bracket or something :)

Now figuring out how to clean out the inside of the rusty tank when the country is in lock-down and no chemicals are available. I am not keen on sealing it (it's not too bad), so am hoping that seafoam in the fuel will halt further rust once I get the bulk of it clean. The one bad thing I've found is that the aluminium post holding up the low fuel sensor has completely corroded away, so maybe JB weld to build it up....?

Thanks everyone for your help with the mystery part!
