ZRX1100 shocks on a Z1? was created by Kidkawie
Besides the ZRX units being 3/4" longer, are they a direct swap? I cant find any info with someone using a stock swingarm. My back is killing me.

Looks like the width is the same as far as the mounts go. Any issues with chain clearance or the top mount/fender area?

Thankfully, those shocks are serviceable. If the geo gets weird I can fab up some limiters to make them the right length. Just worried about side clearance as stated above.

EDIT: Already bought them, just want to see what I'm in for.

just put em on and ride. then you'll know for sure. :)
i used a whole zrx12 rear end. if u jack the rear too high, u may have chain issues. the front should not be a problem, unless u plan on riding at very high speeds for extended periods. it will steer quicker.which is a good thing.

They fit fine only problem is the chain guard. Either remove it or cut a big hole along side the shock.

Thanks for the info.

I'm tuning the bike so I can commute with it it during the week. About a 30 minute drive but I'm on the highway doing about 80-85, or at least trying to. haha Mark, I read your info on the shocks, but like yours I only found people using different swing arms.

I'll have to look into a used or aftermarket guard as mine is original to the bike and I really don't want to ruin it.

Will post pics when they show up.

you need to keep your chain fairly tight or it will be slapping the top of the swing arm. You may need in install a guide for the chain if it hits too much.

That's only if I don't shorten the shocks, right?

I think if you shorten the shocks you'll end up regretting it and buying new ones anyway.

Shock has what, maybe 3" of travel? So shorten it one inch and you have two left, then subtract the sag and that leaves you with one inch of rear suspension travel.

Shorten the shock by one inch and you now have one inch of preload at the start.

I suggest buying the right length shocks.

I don't know exact measurements until I get them in my paws. But from what I've read they are approx 5/8-3/4" longer. Specs say ZRX stock travel is 4.6". I'll check the sag numbers compared to the shocks on there now before I fab anything. I've messed with some shocks before and there's some wiggle room you can use for additional travel by trimming the bump stop. When the shock is fully compressed, it doesn't mean the piston inside is all the way at the top. But like I said, I need them to measure.

Damping has got to be light years ahead of the crap on my bike now. I just might have to stiffen the stack a touch being the shock will already be partially in travel with the limiter.
