Help with rear brake! was created by Kzbatty
My rear brake is toast, so I need a new brake assembly. Doesn't someone here have the crossover software? My scooter being the odd duck (one year made), I have even more trouble finding parts than most KZ'ers. Could someone tell me if the part cross ref's something else? 43041-1083

Boy, that sure looks exactly like the brake on the bacl of my 1982 LTD1000. If so, you can get the back system cheap on ebay. People are parting out LTDs all the time. I bought a complete back brake system for a buck plus shipping. What is wrong with it?

Thanks Sandy! Crap the number is 43041-1082 Check again maybe?

Waterman, I think my brake pad broke off, it was wedged in between the caliper and the rotor in an awkward position. Anyway, it happed mid flight, and the cast iron piece that holds the pad got eaten up by the rotor.

Ouch! You can check with Jeff at Z1 and see if it takes the same pads. If so, it wouldn't be that much of a stretch to think that it has the same calipers as mine. These guys (Kawasaki) are not so inefficient that they would have made a totally different caliper for your bike than mine and still take the same pads. Worth a shot.

checking again...

That's better...but...only 2 bikes come up as having that caliper assembly...both '83's...1100-A3,and the 1100-L1
That's it...just the 2.
Hmmm...I wonder what it would take to get a KZ1000 set-up on there?...

Maybe with a new brake-line and the brake-stay,You COULD get a complete assembly from a 1000 to work.I THINK the axles would be the same size?

That's kinda what I thought, I run into that constantly with this bike, everything is rarer than most KZ stuff. I wish I knew if I could use another setup, it would save me time and money. Thanks for all the help Sandy!

Waterman, I trolled on ebay last day or so, and haven't much yet. Thanks for your help too.

If anyone else has some ideas, they are appreciated and welcome!

Batman...get some measurements of that axle,brake-stay,and what EVER else You can,and Let's start comparing.
As You know...there are a lot more 1000's out there, than the 1100's,so parts are out there as well.I might even have some of what You would need to do the switch.
Get some specs though, because We can't do much without knowing...good luck,Bud.

Well THAT'S weird...I just looked up the brake-stay on both MY 77 1000,and an 80 LTD,and both of them list the brake-stay as being item number "20",so I look for item number 20,but it's not in the list!
Batty...see if You can get a number for YOUR brake-stay,and I can see what it crosses to.I have to get to work, but I'll check in later this evening.

Shows he's parting out an '83 KZ1100 LTD and an '83 KZ1100A...

If not, at least Melissa's worth a gander...:P

Hope that helps...

I just did a search on ebay for "kz1000" and "rear" and there is a back brake setup for an 82' LTD1000 with 12 hours left at a start bid of $5.99 plus a flat $10 for shipping. Might work for you.

Sandy, I'll get to measuring and let you know.

Pete, I do have a request in to oldkawman, thanks!

Waterman, I am going to go look at that and see if I can tell what you and Sandy suspects is correct, that would be great.

Thanks guys!

They sure look the same:
