A little clarification? GS 1100 swing arm...

Hi again folks,

I've been doing alot of reading in the archives about the GS1100 swing arm swap. Baldy110 mentions that using the GS pivot bolt as the new axle, and using the stock KZ pivot bolt should work without putting new bearings in the rear wheel. Galaxian seemed to think new bearings were still necessary - some thoughts on that?

Has anyone done this using a wire hub with a drum brake?

Not trying to bring up old disagreements (if there were any) but i'm going to try this swingarm and I'd like to know what's involved.

Thanks,
Tyler

ok here goes for the 100th time

If doing the swap on a kz650. You will use your stock kz pivot bolt for the swingarm and the stock GS axle at the rear. You WILL need to swap bearings as the smaller kz has 17mm axle vs the bigger kz 20mm (gs and big kz are both 20mm axles). If you are running a rear disk you will either need to drill out your caliper hanger bracket or switch to the big kz one. If you are running drums then i have no idea but will need to drill them out as well.

If you are doing this to a big kz (900/1000) you should be fine all around.

YOu dont mention the model you are doing the conversion on so that may help as well.

If you are going thru that much trouble for a new swingarm, I would (did) go for a new one and a mono shock. get a new wheel to match and have the better brakes that go with it, but thats just me:whistle:
