Got my EMGO bar end mirrors installed last night. They look nice enough, but the mirror is a bit hokie. The mount inside the handlebar worked fine. But there is a spring under an allen head bolt that allows the mirror arm to be adjusted, kind of like the "break away" mirrors on suv's where they will turn in for car washes etc. It doesn't let you tighten the arm enough to keep if from shaking. So this morning I stopped at Ace hardware and picked up a couple of bolts that, without the spring, allow me to tighten them up tight. So, I spent a couple of dollars for the bolts, about 10 dollars each for the mirrors and they now work great. There is a little blur when I'm going 60 or so, but it's not bad, and I can still tell exactly what's behind me. So I'd say it was money well spent.

If anyone is interested, Arizona Motorsports has them:

That's great! You could also gte a couple of longer allen bolts to extend the rubber expander farther into the frame, then make a spacer out of an old 1/2 inch socket or, whatever, to use up the rest of the bolt length. That is, if they don't go very far into the bar. Anyway, I'm glad they work. Makes you wnder what they're thinking with the spring, but I'd use some lock-tight on there, just in case. I suspect the spring was to keep pressure on it to prevent vibration from backing it out.

Well, I pulled out the spring. It's hard to explain, but the allen head bolt had the spring over it, and the head was small enough to go into the hole provided for the spring. It just would bottom out long before the spring was fully compressed, leaving the arm a little loose for me. I just replaced the spring and allen head bolt with a normal bolt with the same metric thread, long enough to go through the arm into the mount. The head on the normal bolt was plenty large enough not to fit into the hole made for the spring to seat into so it tightens well against the outside of the mount. I actually bought two 3/4" allen head bolts with the same thread as well as the regular longer bolts, thinking I'd use the allens without the spring. But, the allen head was just slightly larger in diameter than the original bolts and wouldn't go into the hole. So, I used the other ones instead, but they worked perfect. I'll try to take some photos when I get a chance. Maybe it will all make sense then...
