I want to switch my spoked wheels to 7 spoke mag wheels & want to find the ones that bolt on with the least amount of mods. Will the kz 550 or 440 be a good choice? I have a 79 KZ650 B...

What about the 7 spoke mags from a 650? They had them starting in 1977. They used tubes, though.

The 550's were tubeless, but I don't think they are a direct bolt-on for you.

There is a Kawasaki wheel bearing list in the FileBase that lists what bearings fit what bike. If the 440/550 and 650 bearings are the same number it makes things a whole lot easier.

I have a front and back mag from a '79 C3. Where are you located? Shipping can be expensive. I'm North of Toronto ON, Canada.

yeah that may be a bit high for me. I am in Los ANgeles. Unless I can get them for less than $50 shipped, then it would not be worth it for me. Thanx though!

did the mags from kz650 have a rear hub brake? Something tells me they had disc setup. Now is there any major difference in the mags from kz440 or kz550? Is one belt drive & the other chain? any differences?

I know the 80 KZ650F had mags with a rear drum brake, don't know for sure about any others.

I've been looking, and the wheels from an 82 kz550, at least the rear ones, would fit perfectly on my 77 KZ650. The damper, brakes, and spacers are all the same.

you can look at axle sizes here to see what is compatible:

I got these kz400 mags & the back swaps fine but the front had a smaller axle. So I had to get different bearings with a spacer made to fit. It is a bit of modding but that is the name of the game...
