Tooth & Sprocket setup KZ1000 was created by Allshookup
Hello all,
I need to replace my worn out 630 chain and sprockets. I have an '85 Police bike stripped down. I would like to swap it to a 530 chain. Will it handle it? I have found several kits that have the option of a 16 or 17 tooth front and 38 , 40 , 41 , 42 rear sprocket.

I know NOTHING about this at all can someone give the the pro's & con's of the swap as well as the different Tooth & Sprocket setups. What are you running? What is the difference in running a 16 or 17?

Thanks for your help.

the 530 is a popular swap.chain and sprockets are cheaper and lighter, take less horsepower to turn.im thinking my 74 z1 is 16x40 with 530 chain.check on links under sprocket specialists or something like that they have a gearing chart to help choose sprockets by what you want the bike to do.;) goodluck, happy wrenching!

Well I have found that my factory specs are:
Stock Front Sprocket: 15
Stock Rear Sprocket: 41
Stock Chain: 630x98

Does anyone know would be a close to stock option for the 530 setup? Also I'm assuming that the sprockets have to be "530" sprockets right or are the "630" sprockets the same width?
Sorry for the newbe questions I have never done this before.
Thanks,

41 divided by 15 is 2.733333 so we'll call it 2.73.
So pick a commonly available front sprocket of about the same diameter (I think a 17) and multply that number by 2.73 to find the rear sprocket teeth.

17 x 2.73 = 46.41. close enough to a 46

So, 17 front and 46 rear would give you the same final drive ratio that you currently have.

You would have loads of trouble trying to use a 530 chain on a 630 sprocket, the 630 sprocket has a pitch of 3/4" while the 530 has a pitch of 5/8" :)

Sheesh, do it the easy way, just call Jeff at Z1 Enterprises and ask him what chain and sprockets to use, then order them from him, I doubt you will beat his prices :D
