77 kz650c rims on 1979 kz650b

Hello all,

Wondering if anyone would be aware of any prequisites or caveats for placing a set of mags off a 77 kz650c onto a 79 kz650b with spoked rims. Off the top of my head the only thing I can think of are the brake fluid reservoirs for the dual disks up front and rear that would be replacing the current front single disk/rear drum setup.

Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Your right, the front master cyl. is different, and you'll need to mount a rear master cyl. The swing arms are a little different as to the torque arm mount. As well the '77 has bushings in the swing arm and the '79 has bearings, but that can be swapped either way.
The front disks may be a different thickness, and you will need 2 calipers up front if your going that route. All possable, and been done. You may find some info in the Archive section on this.

About two year ago I did the exact same swap you're considering on doing from a '77 KZ650C model to a '78 KZ650B model.

Along with the wheels and complete front and rear brake sytems, you're also going to need to either remove the rear master cylinder bracket from the frame and weld it to your frame, or fabricate a new bracket to mount on your frame.

You should also swap the swingarm and rear brake torque rod from the donor KZ650C to your bike.
The brake torque rod on the KZ650B mounts to the bottom of the swingarm, and on the KZ650C it mounts on top. Plus the KZ650C swingarm has two loops welded to it right below the torque rod that holds the rear brake hose, and prevents it from contacting the tire.
