Can someone tell me if the gear box assembly on the front hub that drives the speedometer is the same for a speedometer calibrated in kilometers to the one used for a speedometer calibrated for miles. Is the output the same and the conversion done in the speedometer itself or does the kilometer speedo use a different gearbox assmbly with a different output.

I could be completely wrong (it has happened before) but my guess is that the only difference is the face? Why should the gearing be any different- your top speed isn't going to change whether you measure it in MPH or KPH or furlongs per week. (FPW)
Somebody smarter out there want to tell me I'm talking out my ass again?
