Rear brake howling question was created by kz550krazy
Just added a new member to our bike family today- a 1987kz305LTD. Purchased for my wife, and is pretty tight other than the speedo doesn't work and the rear brake howls loud when you aplly 90+% pressure. Haven't worked on a rear drum yet, any advice? Probable cause?

More than likely, just the shoes are worn out,or there's a lot of brake-dust trapped in there.
Just for the heck of it,see if You can spray in some "Brake-Clean" into the drum...let it dry off and try it out again...if not,You'll have to get in and pull it apart.

I had an old dirt bike with rear drum brakes that were worn out, they made all kinds of noise, metal on metal isnt a good sound! If I were you, I would have a look inside just incase, you dont want to ruin the wheel.
