There was a thread on this on the old board, but I thought I would post some pics of the left control I just finished.

I completely disassemble the control down to the cases. Then using an angled wire wheel on a Dremel remove the paint. Buff with steel wool, then polish with a buffing wheel Dremel attachment and Mother's Mag Polish. Lastly, a final hand buffing or two with Mother's and a soft rag.

It actually doesn't take that long to do and I like the look better than paint. You'll probably notice in the last picture my right hand control is not as shiny. It was done a while back, but has held up well without any extra polishing.

That came out looking great, and a good alternative to repainting. Nice work.

I have both pollished a set and painted a set. I actualy like the look of the painted set better. If you get a nice high gloss paint on them they look dam good.

You think high gloss or a semi/satin finish looks better?

I wanted the 'original' look, so I went with paint. Got the controls a little too shiny. Uses semi-gloss black, should have used satin finish.
I like the look of the polished aluminum.... maybe on my next project.

Took me a minute to figure out how to post a picture with the new KZr.
Hope this works...
