440 Sproket problem was created by Nevco48
Hello again,
Got another question for you KZ gurus. 1982 KZ440,belt drive; got it all cleaned up and the engine sounds good. However, there were some nasty noises from the drive train, even coasting. I found the drive sproket bolt was loose and the sproket was getting beat up by the shaft, you can see in this photo how the inner teeth are worn down to points. The washer doohickey that was supposed to hold the nut tight is destroyed as well. I snugged down the nut and the worst of the noises went away, but I'm thinking I really need to replace the sproket, right? How do I track down one of them? Any leads would be appreciated, thanks.

I'd replace it. Not long before it's all spin and no go.
Well, be watching eBay like the rest of us, or check out BikeBandit.com or others who resell NOS/OEM stuff.

Here's some info about your part:

Thats what I'm afraid of. It musta been loose for a long time to wear that badly. I'll keep my feelers out on Ebay; everytime I go there, I wind up sidetracked and waste several hours though. I'm probably not the only one. Thanks for the tech info!

Try your local parts dealer. They will most likely find what you need for the 440.
