Can I convert my 78 KZ650 to belt drive? If so, can it be done with parts from another model, and be economicl to do?

I would rather have a chain just like in my car a timing chain trumphs a timing belt but I'm old and like old stuff it worked good, it was built when human beings had commonsense

If you use your belt in place of the chain won't that let your pants fall down? :P

use the chain to hold you pants up..

why belt drive?i dont think it would ake nearly the abuse a chain will and would really limit drive ratio options.B)

It will be lighter, but taking your back rim off will be more time consuming.

it would not be that big of deal to take it off if you have the drive sprocket cover off (I plan on having mine open). Anyone do this? I know the kz440 has a belt drive. Could you change out the chain drive sprocket on a kz650 for a belt one on a kz440? The stock gearing on the kz440 may be different than 650...

Anything is possible, but unless you have access to a machine shop and the skills to do it, it's sure not going to be economical :)

If you have ever rode a bike with Belt drive you would understand , Very Smooth and no chain whip or noise , I would think if HD can use a belt drive on their bikes I am sure it would hold the power of a KZ650 and More , Isnt one of KZ750 Twins Belt Drive ? If it is you could use that one , I had a KZ 250 that was belt drive . It was possible to switch it over to Chain drive with just sprockets and a chain .. Bolt On you might say ,, I dont know about the 440 though ,, Hey whatever floats your boat ,, Right ?? Later Shoeman ;) ;) ;)

The Dude did this to his 400 a few months ago.

Check out this thread where he mentioned it.
