Check your grab rail behind the seat. The 'stepped' seat is taller in the back, and so the LTDs came with a taller grab rail. If your bike has the 'standard' grab rail and the LTD seat, then it's hard for your passenger to clutch the rail.
If your PO replaced the grab rail when he replaced the seat, and you have a tall grab rail, then it may be worth something... those tall rails are kind of rare.
Here's a pic of the correct seat/rail combo for an LTD.

no, i've got the regular grab rail, along with a factory backrest/luggage rack. i think you are correct.the seat is off an ltd. thanks for the help. some folks may think this post is weak, but some of us just don't know such things about seat styles and whatnot.
