Kick Starter Pedal Shaft - Retaining Band

My bike has a 6" long black rubber retaining band that attaches to the frame and loops over the kick starter pedal shaft. It is split and I want to replace it. I went to the trusted Kawasaki.com 'Parts Diagrams' and it does not show it or list it on any diagram - I checked them all.

Does anyone here have a handle on its OEM Part# ?
Maybe someone with a micro-fiche of this bike.

that looks more like something used to hold carb drain hoses out of the way,i dont think it would last long hooked to a kickstarter.

One side of that rubber bit hooks over the swingarm bolt and the other is used to route hoses. Not really necessary. Can't imagine why someone stuck it over the kicker hehe

Maybe the return spring was broke, and the rubber band held it up? :)

A broken return spring can be fixed by removing the kicker plate (you will need a new gasket). The spring just sits inside around the shaft along with another aluminum bit. Easy fix.

Thanks guys - That answers some questions. I've owned the bike since new and recently noticed this band out there hanging loose with the broken loop end headed in the direction of the kickstarter. Due to its position I assumed that it was originally around the kickstarter shaft.

The kickstarter return spring is working fine - I moved the kickstarter out of the way simply to get a good picture of the band in question.

With your replies I now know that it's for routing hoses. Even though it is obviously not necessary I think I'd still like to try and replace it to bring the bike up to original.

Any sources or links other than kawasaki.com 'Parts Diagrams' (I can't find it in any of these diagrams or parts lists) where I could identify the OEM Part # for this? Microfiche help anyone?

I would contact www.z1enterprises.com and ask if they can get you one. Jeff will know what the correct piece is and I suspect it is the same for all of the KZs that use them.

If you can't find a new one, a wrecker may have one. It may not be Kawi but looks familiar to me from other brands. Epoxy, Goop or Super Glue would work too.
