Speedo Cable length for z1A was created by sidy
G'Day all,

The most bizzare thing happened today, I tired to put a new speedo cable onto my z1A and it does not reach the screw thread!... its brand new from the dealer and the part numbers are correct, it measures about 850mm long, does anyone know what length a speedo cable should be for a 1974 z1A.

Everything is standard (forks, inst location etc).

I'll be taking it back to the dealer this week for some explaining!

Hi Sid, 34.0" long (end-to-end for the inner cable) - or about 865mm - sounds like that's the correct one.

Has the speedo drive rotated downward on the bike? Try loosing the nuts holding the axle and rotating the speedo drive.

Have you swapped the calipers to the rear of the forks?
If so, you need the longer speedo cable from the KZ900/1000 ltd models 54001-1010. This is about 38" in length.
