can you test it with it off the bike? I am getting a fairly even resistance with between all three wires of about 1.1 with it off the bike ..?

You can only resistance test it off the bike. That doesn't mean it can put out the power that is required, but it's a good test to start with. Yours sounds about right. Does it show continuity to the frame of the stator? It shouldn't.

I'll test the continuity thing, good idea. The book says .45-something less than one and that above that the stator should be replaced..?

I did the contiunuity test to the body from each wire and got nothing. Sweet. So, why does the book say that resistance above .5? the stator should be replaced?

I wouldn't think it needs to be replaced just yet, especially if all the readings are close to one another.
