My turnsignals make all 4 lights flash... was created by floridamba
I've got an 82 LTD 1000 and when I use the right or left turn signal, all four lights flash. It's wierd. I've looked at the wiring and it seems ok. Could a flasher or handlebar switch cause this?

thanks

Make sure Your HAZARD switch is off...??
Do You have a flasher installed for the hazard lights?

So that's what that little rocker switch is for!!!

There's a small rocker switch on the LH switch assembly to the right of the high beam switch. When it's up, my turn signal switch turns on the flashers... when down they work like turn signals.

Was this for the US market? I've never seen it before, then this is my first Kaw from the '80's. I've been in the '70's for a long time.

thanks for the help

There are at least two types of hazard switches. One is a rocker and the other is a pull type switch. I will explain the pull switch. When the switch is pulled out, it DOES NOT make contact with a wire connected to the switch. When pushed in, contact is made. The wire, essentially is teed into both the left and right turn signal leads (the gray and green). It is fed by a separate relay I think and both lights will flash. If the relay isn't used, that is, the orange/green wire isn't feeding the switch, you can still use this flasher by pushing the thing in and turning the turn signals on in either direction. I bought a bunch of 650 switchgear awhile back and most of the 80s vintage 650s seem to have one type or the other of this switch. On the KZ900, there is a completely separate circuit for a hazard relay which is on the right side of the battery box and that is what the extra turn signal relay is for as well as that comb shaped gizmo next to it. It is also an orange/green and brown circuit with brown as the hot feed and the orange/green carrying the flashing current to the four turn signals.
