Bike slows to a halt, loses charge

Wow, it's been a while since I last posted and that post was in the old kzrider.com forum! Anyways, I wanted to update everyone that helped me with suggestions to my charging problem. My bike had died on me a couple of times. Each time it would slow to a halt and could not be restarted.

With your help, I have been up and running for about two months now. Loose connections and dirty wires were the culprit.

Now, my headlight pooped on me recently and I went straight to the fuse box. I inspected and cleaned all clips per your suggestions. I found out the 10A fuse for the headlight was faulty but you could not see the filament break. I guess it happened near one end of the fuse where the metal and glass meet.

Ed, it is hard to find the 3/4 length fuses used in a KZ fuse box and many folks will replace them with the slightly longer fuses which tend to fail but are easier to find... I am talking about the glass tube type fuses. In any case, many members have replaced the original fuse box with a newer style box where you can use the plug in type fuses that are common on today's cars. Seems like the fuse area gets to be a cause for concern on older bikes.

Someone wrote up the mod and posted pics... was it on a KZ900 or Z1? Hmmmm I don't recall... I think they used a fuse box with six slots as I recall... I have had problems myself in the past by using the longer barrel fuses... I can't find any of the type that were originally used.

Hopefully, someone who has done the mod will see this and post a pic or two.

I made that mod a couple of years ago.
It is the answer to fuse problems for sure.
Now, if I could just be more helpful and let you know where you can get this.

The box was under $10.00, has a snap on water-tight top and holds six automotive (blade type) fuses, it's rated @ 30 amps, fits nicley under the left side cover.

If you can wire, have a test light and a soldering gun and can find one of these?
it's well worth the effort.

Use correct gauge wire and label what goes where.

anybody thought of using mini circuit breakers instead of fuses?you can get them at electronic stores.can definately make the differance between broke down with no fuses and limping it home!
