I read something about using a 400/440 ignition on a 750B but not sure where I read it, supposedly some 400s or 440s had electronic ign and could be adapted to the big twin or was I haveing a dream

Yes it works, I have done it. KZ440 had electronic ignition and the parts bolt right on the 750 twin. I think to many people know about it now though, the prices for 440 timing advancers, pickup coils, and igniters, on eBay has skyrocketed recently :(

And unfortunately I need a couple more :(

Man, ain't that the truth! :blink: I've been watching them too... It might be best to go to a salvage yard (breaker) where they don't know what they're worth on the open market...

Yep, 82 CSR and 83 Belt were both electronic, and componets from those two are scarce. I have only seen one on eBay and it was misidentified (called the igniter a reg/rec) so I got it cheap. :)

hey guys on my b4
what do i need to convert re do you have to replace coils also , i guess the conversion on the timing plate
but is there other componets one has to be aware of
if so will look for ,would love to have electronic ign

Remove the timing plate altogether and bolt on a KZ440 or 82-83 KZ750 twin pickup, find a place to mount the igniter, wire to the stock coil or use an Accel or Dyna 3 ohm coil. Replace the stock timing advancer with the KZ440 or 82-83 KZ750 twin unit.

The KZ440 timing advancer allows 5 degrees more advance than the stock KZ750 twin advancer, but it has worked fine for me so far.

If you can't find an igniter, Loudhvx has a neat design for a igniter that uses a GM HEI module and works great posted on his site.
