I will still check my 650 engines and get back to you.

One difference with the bigger engines is that yours has only one spring.  My Z1 advancers have two.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

I was able to check one in my parts bins, but the other one is on an engine in a 650 stored up against a wall where it's difficult to access.  I took a photo of the one I found.  It has no 1016 code on it and it has two springs.  I think someone may have switched advance units on your bike at some point.  (Or is it for an OEM electronic ignition?). I can definitely say mine came from a 650 engine, but it may not have been original to the bike...I just don't know.  The engines are 77 and 78.

Edited to add that the manual I have for a 650 says the advance should be 10 deg BTDC at 1,600 and 35 deg BTDC at 3,200 rpm.  Neither of my engines are electronic ignition.

That part number matches up with the one I purchased and fitted (1016) see attached image.
Any thoughts about the resister in the plug cap ?, mine are NGK 5ohm resister type ? should I be using the non resister type ?
Happy Christmas when it gets here.

According to Partzilla the one you bought (1016) is for a KZ550.  GD4Now has pointed out that the correct number for a KZ650 is 1022.  I checked Partzilla and he is correct.

Any idea what the difference is ?, as mentioned others on the forum have fitted the 1016 on their KZ650's ?

I don't know what the difference is.  You might try contacting someone who has used the 1016 advancer to see how their bike runs.
