Ignition key code 1980 kz1000G was created by Tolon
Just picked up a 1980 kz1000g -no keys. Ignition cylinder is stamped “411” so ordered a NOS key for a 411 but it doesn’t fit the cylinder. Looks like it’s for a much older bike maybe? Am I wrong that this is the key code?

Maybe rstnick will chime in.  Partzilla has a photo of a key that should be correct for your motorcycle (I'm assuming the key in their photo is correct for the part number and not just a stock photo). The head probably doesn't matter, but the blade offset is opposite from the key you got.  From the diagrams my motorcycle uses the same key blank (27008-1103).  I got an ilco key KA14..X103 at the hardware store and they used my old key as a template to cut it.  ... www.partzilla.com/product/kawasaki/27008...e0d8bade71be6e496589

It looks like there might be a number or symbol before the 4 on the lock cylinder.

PM as I understand it no longer is working. Rob would be who I would want to talk to about this. I am sure he will see this at some point and respond.

That’s the actual key I got. Just tried to crop it so it looked nicer. I was trying to figure out if that might have been another stamping before the 4, but I just couldn’t quite make out what it might be. Almost looks like it could be a K or maybe a 5, but that seems to be a stretch. I’ve been trying to find out the code ranges that might have been in use at that time, but no luck. I have a replacement ignition that is keyed in the 700 range and it fits fine other than the cut. Could it be that it needs cut to the 411 code with the other blank?
Mostly I’m just putting off taking apart the instrument cluster to get the ignition out in hopes that I’m not just missing something simple.
Anyway, thanks in advance. I really have learned a lot from everyone here over the years, not many issues that I have run into that you guys haven’t pointed me in the right direction.

Tried to get a better picture of the cylinder, looks like it could be a 5411? Anyone else see the same?

Thanks!

For that year, I would think it would have a Z5000-6000 key code number.

Could be Z5411
