We used short stems & OEM Honda CB350 turn signals on one of our period custom Z1-A's..  Those CB350 items were used on many other models in the day.  Should be easy to fine good used OEM Honda items.  Can't speak to aftermarket quality.   Don't know if short stems are still available.

Short stems as mentioned and also the LTD bar mounted signals will fit perfectly on the stems. They will also give you the dual element bulb and and option to add running lights to the rear.

How much smaller?  I think the 80s style turn signals are smaller than the earlier 70s style.
1981 KZ650-CSR. lens = ~75mm at the face. 80mm (3-1/8" ) where it meets the housing.

Some of the KZ400 models had short stems and some Honda stems are similar to the KZ400.
Stock Kawasaki or Honda turn signal stems will have better chrome than aftermarket.
I installed some K&S stems from Z1Ent and the chrome has degraded. the motorcycle is garage kept, so it isn't the weather's fault. ha ha..

10mm.  For stuff like this the diagrams at Kawasaki.com or Partzilla are handy. turn signal hardware size is typically listed.

I moved the handlebar mounted turn signals on the LTD from the bars to hold on the headlight using the short stems.
I used short stems on the rear but I'm probably going to get another set of the front handlebar signals for the rear. They're a bit smaller.
Then I can use them as running lights too. The front signals are 80mm and the rear are 90mm. When I find a taillight smaller than a lunchbox the stock signals will look too big. Does anyone else think that the shape of the stock taillight should have the curved part at the top? It fits nicely in the tail upside down.

Yeah Kelly I agree the curve on the bottom of the taillight would be a better match to the curve of the tailpiece
