Hi all,

need some brain power - so came here! I have a KZ440ltd US import here in the UK and have had to take the original rear break light cluster off and replace with an LED brake unit. I can get the main light to work but for the life of me I cannot get the brake light to operate when braking.

I can imagine it’s down to supply voltage and the brake warning light on the clocks but need to keep this working, as long term I will be fully restoring it.

Any ideas??

Does the stock brake light work?
Have you hooked-up the led brake light directly to the battery to test if it works?

The brake warning light divice need a minimum of current flow a LED don´t need. So you have to connect a 100 Ohm ballast resitor paralell to the breake light LED circuit to emulate a stock break light bulb.

Hi F64

yes the stock light worked but due to fitting some other bits (sissy bar and rack) the stock light holder does not fit in the existing location so taken that off and replaced with a LED unit a lot smaller / lower.
so I know the existing wiring works

scirocco - thanks for that - I’ll order one from Amazon and wire it in

You shouldn't need the resistor to get the led brake light to work. The resistor just turns off the brake warning light on your gauges when you aren't using the brakes.
I have led brake lights without the resistor.
The brake warning light on my gauge is always on. It doesn't bother me.

What wire colors are on the new led brake light?
Do you have a internet link to the exact led brake light?

Hi

the brake light is a cheap one from Amazon 3wire green/yellow brown and green. When I connect the g/y to positive on the battery and green to negative the whole thing lights up, but connecting brown to negative and nothing
connect brown to positive and green to earth it lights up reverse them it lights up.
that’s now screwing with my head, because I was always told LEDs are flow specific as in if it don’t work one way swap it round and it will work. But that blows that saying out the window.

do you have any ideas??

my head hurts!

So you have a rear light and break light combo. Does both lights have the same brightness?

GREEN is negative for both, rear light and break light.
GREEN/YELLOW is positive for break light (or rear light due to the brightness).
BROWN is positive for rear light (or break light due to the brightness).

Some of the chinesium lights are wired weird. I don't think green is ground, it might yellow. It's been a couple of years since I dealt with one.
