Got a new bike it's a 1982 Kawasaki gpz550. I can't find spark plugs for the life of me. I found on z1 some plugs however on the end that goes to the box (not sure what its called) has a nut around the plug. The ones on z1 doesn't, I talked with the auto parts store they ordered me a universal kit. But it also doesn't have the nut. He says they normally just snap into place on the box. Do you need the nut on it?

Assuming by box you mean the coil? You unscrew the nut and pull out the off wire, insert the new and tighten back onto the coil. Easy Peasy.
I use the Z1 wires on my KZs.

The nut is not part of the wire, it merely helps secure the wire in the socket. When you remove the old wires, keep the nuts and put them over the new wires before installing them.

oh, wait. Are you talking about the top of the spark plug where the cap on the end of the wire connects? If so, the tip of the plug unscrews, revealing a threaded post that the spark plug wire snaps over.

Hello all, thank you for all the info. The box is the coil, sorry new to all this. If I understand correctly the wires have to be 7mm, I can reuse the nut to secure the wire onto the coil. Then the other side twists onto the new spark plug. I found a kit from orient express racing that I am pretty sure will work.

No.  Those wires are wrong.  They are resistor wires.  You need 7mm copper core wire.

The wires unscrew from the coils and pull off.  The spark plug caps, assuming you have the stock ones, also unscrew from the wires.  The wire has an outer sheath that slides over the 7mm inner wire.  You can remove that and reuse it on the new wires you buy.

The spark plugs you need are NGK D8EA or ND X24ES-U.  Amazon sells them.  Make sure the type you order have a threaded stud on the top, to match with the spark plug caps.
