Dyna 3 ignition box placement? was created by Injected
I bought a Dyna 3 cheap at a swap meet for a KZ900/1000. I have only dealt with either a Dyna S or OEM Kawasaki electronic ignition.

Where do you mount the ignition box? I see it has the clamp bands to go on a frame tube, but where?

Mine is going on a KZ650 frame. There seems to be a little bit less room on a 650 than a Z1.

I was thinking it may be better placed on the bottom of the battery box similar to a OEM Ignitor box. It needs to receive fresh air.

I mounted my Dyna ignition box on the right side frame rail just in front of the front seat hinge. It's up under the seat out of the weather but plenty of cool air.

I kind of thought that's where it would be, there is only so much wire to work with.

Here is my situation :

There is no room under the 650 seat when using the air box.

The only alternative I see is under the battery box. I will have to ditch the tube clamp bands and come up with a flat mounting arrangement.

Thank you for the picture.

I mounted my Dyna III box on the frame bracket that runs between the main frame rails just under the back of the fuel tank.
I have always had the Dyna III box mounted on some firm foam rubber. I would not mount it solidly to anything myself.
Vibration is the major cause of electronics failures. My Dyna box is the very same one that I have had on my Kz1000 since I built it back in '79/'80!!!!

Well I guess I had better cut a strip or two of old inner tube rubber to put between the box and the frame rail. I am pretty sure that this Dyna ignition box is from when the bike was my uncle's and almost new. It was on the down tube in plain sight behind the kickstarter when I got the bike from him last August.

Keep an eye on my build thread over the next couple of weeks, my airbox mods are almost done - something similar would give you some much needed real estate and greatly improved flow without going to pods
