Im about to install a new battery and reg/rec in my 77 KZ750B. Im not happy with the stock position of the reg/rec. There is not a lot of airflow under the massive sidecover.

Any idea on where I might relocate it to?

I would relocate the reg/rec unit under the battery tray.

Trust me, you don´t need more air flow on your reg/rec like a ram air system for carbs! Do not made any rocket science here!!!
Your alternator power out put is less than a half of a modern bike!

If you are so determined....,,,.and am only mentioned what I did as an idea.  .......I installed a SH775 under the rear fender, but this was a 750-4, not a twin.     I do know where to get,...and how to make,,, 'factory' electrical connectors.         The SH775 was much bigger than stock....and got the idea from a Yamaha FZ-09 which also have it under the fender.

If your new RR is a MOSFET ( transistorised unit) then they run much cooler than the old diode units and cooling is less of an issue. Just make sure wherever you put it that it is bolted to a heat sink and you should be fine

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the '77 750 Twin use a field coil in it's charging system?  Assuming yes, doesn't it use a special R/R (or separate regulator and rectifier?)

As allways, a picture of the charging system would be very helpful to clarify the charging inviroment.

The parts diagram at Partzilla shows two charging systems for the 1977 750 B2. I guess a change was made during that model run. If so, identifying which system is on the bike in question seems paramount to resolving the issue.

One system has a unified RR, while the other uses separate components.
