Would this cause no spark? was created by Caltman48
Hi I just picked up this kz750H1 for super cheap and was told it didn’t run because of a stuck float, I fixed that with a spare carb I had and got everything good to go but I don’t have spark at the moment. The previous owner got rid of all the gauges and handle bar accessories. So the wiring is a little weird, but he said it ran before it got laid down. I’ve gone through and checked every connection and they seem good, it got laid down on the right side which is the ignition side, the cover is broken off.
i attached some pictures of the side cover and the wiring, the the silver box on the left is the accessories switch and the one on the left is to crank the the starter both of which work.

"it ran before it got laid down" ha ha. po stating the obvious. hate to ask an obvious q? but you do know the crankcase is smashed? big chunk. a couple of no spark things: make sure ignition coils have power, redo the spark plug wire connections at the caps & coils.

If it were me (electrician for decades), I would try to find a good harness so I could "de-weird" it.

I do have a spare harness, the bike came with a spare motor as well, I’m just a little intimidated by redoing the whole harness but it looks like that’s the smartest option.

Haha yeah I know the case looks like trash, but it doesn’t seem to have reached anything important, I was going to try and repair it with a new cover and some kind of body filler. I honestly bought the bike for spare parts for my GPZ but when I cleaned it up it was in really nice condition minus the obvious so I figured I would try and get her going. It even came with a spare motor, I’m just unsure if that motor is good or not but worst case I could swap that in

I'll take a crack at it.
Grab a fire extinguisher just in case.
Also, make sure you can disconnect the battery quickly.

Grab your meter.
meter set to DC V
key on
ignition on

Black probe on negative battery post(post is the metal part of the battery)
Red probe on positive battery post
what is your voltage to one decimal place (ex 12.4)?

Move your red probe to each coil's positive terminal
what are the voltages to one decimal place?

Move red probe to the negative side of each coil.
What are the voltages?

Move your red probe to a bare aluminum part of the engine case.
What is your voltage?
It will be low. Hopefully, a steady 0.0V.
You don't want it any higher than 0.5V
