I'm interested in updating/upgrading the stock original ignition coils in my 1985 GPz 750 and looking for recommendations. The bike is running OK, but I feel that after 36 years it's time to address them before I end up stranded.

Modifications include:
- Wiseco 810 cc pistons
- Dynajet stage 3 carburetor kit
- Kerker 4-1 exhaust w/ 2.5" outlet
- K&N pod air filters
- 86-87 1000R Ninja IC Ignitor box

I'm looking for a reliable set of coils suitable for daily driving around town and on the highway with the occasional long-distance trip. What are my options?

Dyna coils are readily available and fairly priced. The primary resistance needs to match what's specified for the ignition system. You can also adapt used coils off a newer bike. That's a good way to save money but it takes research on the resistance and fitment.

I'm using accel coils and 8.8mm leads in a similar engine, My engine builder tried to talk me into Nology coils, he uses them in all his race engines and loves them, I'm using the accels because I already had them, I would have taken his advice and used Nology if I din't already have the accels. He doesn't use dyna at all anymore, he told me that they would be last on his list for a performance engine, they had the weakest spark of the 3 mentioned here. In saying that, dyna are probably still better than stock...
Here's a link to Nology's site for USA distributors.. Nology are made in Germany..

Thanks for the reply. What is the correct resistance? The GPz 750 shop manual gives a test range of 1.8-2.8 ohms for the primary winding, 10-16 K-ohms for the secondary winding.

I wouldn't worry about the secondary ohm settings. Match the primary to the specs of the ingition system used..

I don't have a plan and I'm sticken' to it! '77 KZ 650 / 750 GPz custom project in progress

Coils for our bikes are generally sold as 3 ohms, My Accel's are 3 ohm, I measured them last week and they were almost spot on 3 Ohms ...

G'day 750 R1, have you heard of this company or know of anyone using their coils?
They are about 20Km from me but I have never heard of them until recently and these coils have no user reviews.
Their pricing is excellent but I wonder about the old adage of "If it seems too good to be true"
Cheers.

The Dyna GRAY coils are 2.2 ohms so they would fall in that range.
