can anyone identify this instrument cluster. was created by kzstreetfighter71
Need help identify this instrument cluster, it came in a job lot and i cant find anything like it on the web, It has the feel and look of mamma Kawasaki and its a fairly big cluster, the distance between the mounting bolts is 120mm. its fairly battered so its good for what i have planed for it but i don't want to damage it any more if its a rare cluster when i can find a cheaper more beat up set. Any and all help is always appreciated.

Forgot to mention it has the "Nippon Denso" mark on clock faces.

Maybe a 79 KZ1000E ST Shaft. The 1980 model had an 85 mph speedo.

Martin you are on the money sir, this is why KZR is better than any Google any day. Next question so is how do you restore the actual clocks or can you even?

They can be refurbished as a do-it-yourself project. I don't think Z1Resto or anybody else restores this size meters because I'm pretty sure there are no restoration parts (glass, o-rings, clamp rings). Z1Resto has a press (2-ton? 10-ton?) that they use to install new clamp rings on the meters they restore. Others restorers probably do the same.

For refurbishing them, here's some info, but not all inclusive by any means:
Do not try to remove the trip meter knob first. First thing to do is to remove the clamp rings, usually by prying.
The clamps are the biggest problem: removing them & reinstalling. Some guys make special prying tools by grinding down or modifying the tips of junk screwdrivers & needle nosed pliers. To protect the rings it would be good to have a protector of some sort. You would probably need access to a machine shop to fab up something. possibly from metal or plastic. Some guys don't bother, though. They just exercise a bit of patience & carefully pry off the rings.

Trip meter knob. To remove the knob you have to hold the shaft w pliers, then unscrew the knob clockwise (it has LH threads, so clockwise unscrews it). You get access to the shaft after removing the clamp ring & separating the tops & bottoms of the meters.

If a black housing is badly damaged, you might could use the housing from various 80s meters: 650-CSR, 750-CSR, 1000-CSR & 750H-Ltd. I don't know if these housings are exactly the same as a 1000E, but I'm pretty sure they're the closest match. I'm assuming your meter mounting studs are 84mm c-to-c.

There's a bunch of other stuff. but this is just a bit of info.

As far as I know Z-Resto restores meters like those. You can check on his website.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

Thanks again for the great tips guys, i have a rotating table for my mill so i might be able to get that to help with the un crimping, the caseings are fairly beat up, dents on the side as well, ill contact zresto about weather new ones can be found but shipping them to and back from Ireland to the states might be a non runner. I might leave them for a winter project but it would be a shame to see them go to waste.

You could probably easily sell a restored set of 1000E meters. The 1980 owners would want the 160mph speedo.

If you could find upper cans, I bet those would clean up nice. The faces look nice and bright. One of our members, asphalt900 restores gauges. You could reach out to him.

Its only the upper cans that are damaged but they are fairly beat up. Im surprised with the amount of dents on them the glass held up just shows the quality of OEM. Im fairly sire i could make a crude jig to mount to my rotating table with a tool in the chuck would lift and crimp down the ring if i could find a set of Cans. A project thred for the future im sure.
