I seem to be having an issue I am not familiar with. I have searched through the forum and come close to my issue but not exact. I have a 1978 KZ1000-A2 and cylinders 1 and 4 have no spark. The ignition coils are wired as such: Left coil fires 1,2, and right coil fires 3,4.

She was running great all summer then started to run rough, like idle rough idle then picked up again with more throttle. Eventually she just wouldn't start again. I have spark on 2,3 which are different coils, but not 1,4

Any ideas?

I believe the coils should be 1-4 and 2-3, but I don't have my manual handy. If your have a manual, look it up. I think that might be your issue.

Switch the ign wires for 1-4 to 2-3 and vice versa at the bullet connectors close to the coils under the tank.
If 1-4 still fails to spark it is likely to be the coil.
If the fault follows the wiring swap to 2-3 then the fault is in the either the 1-4 wiring (short etc) , points, condenser or if fitted the aftermarket ignition pick-up for cyls 1-4.

I found my problem. I had changed the spark plugs originally when this issue presented and got over concerned when the fault persisted after changing plugs. I started swapping plugs around checking for spark against the engine. Low and behold, 2 faulty brand new spark plugs. All is well after a quick trip to get 4 more new spark plugs. Thank you for taking the time to reply guys!
